Border and Media Control Products

Sonus Border and Media Control layer of the Sonus IMS architecture manages the interaction between a service providers' IMS core network (application and session control functions), legacy circuit-switched networks and IP-voice packet networks of other providers. The Sonus Border and Media Control products also provide media services for IMS subscribers.

Meeting stringent carrier-class requirements for security, reliability, scalability, voice quality and performance, Sonus Border and Media Control family of products include:

GSX9000™ and GSX4000™ Open Services Switches: Sonus GSX products serve as the IMS Media Gateway Control Function/Media Gateway (MGCF/MGW) with market-leading IP-to-circuit-switched network interface functionality.

Network Border Switch (NBS): Based on the GSX9000, the Sonus NBS delivers secure connections to other carriers' IP networks and fulfills key IMS functions, such as the Proxy – Call Session Control Function (P-CSCF) and/or the Interrogating Call Session Control Function (I-CSCF). The NBS can also be used as the IMS Topology Hiding Internetworking Gateway (THIG).

OSPA Media Servers: Members of the Sonus Open Services Partner Alliance (OSPA) deliver carrier-grade media services for subscribers. These third-party partner products provide the Media Resource (MRF) and Media Resource Function Controller (MRFC) elements for the Sonus IMS Architecture.
