Internet Offload Application

The Internet offload application can significantly reduce costs while increasing capacity in the tandem network. Accessing the Internet through dial up connections increases average call hold times, consuming significant bandwidth on tandem switches. Since tandem switches are not attached to new subscribers or provide new services, they are expensive and represent a pure cost to carriers. Packet-based Internet offload solutions effectively divert Internet traffic off of the circuit network, before it reaches tandem switches. This frees capacity and enables carriers to avoid the purchase of additional voice infrastructure equipment.

Internet offload is often one of the first applications in a carrier’s larger migration strategy to packet-based infrastructure. Packet-based solutions allow carriers to cost-effectively ease the burden placed on their networks by Internet traffic, and also offer a dense footprint that provides far greater scalability than circuit alternatives. Moreover, with the Sonus solution, carriers can easily go beyond the initial Internet offload application to deliver traditional and enhanced voice services on the same packet voice platform.

Sonus Networks provides proven, end-to-end solutions that enable carriers to easily deploy an Internet offload application and rapidly transition to a full packet voice architecture. The Sonus IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture provides advanced scalability and performance in a flexible system that can be centralized or distributed to optimize network configurations. Together with Sonus, you can deploy a cost-effective network that supports your current and future business plans.

Components of the Sonus Internet offload application include:
