IP-Voice Termination Application

Packet voice has grown rapidly during the past decade as enterprises create private networks and carriers use data infrastructure to carry voice. Packet-based carriers need to terminate traffic on the PSTN, typically in many countries around the world. However, instead of investing in and managing the infrastructure to bring traffic into the legacy public network, carriers often prefer to purchase PSTN termination from other carriers. Commonly referred to as IP-voice termination, this service includes the ability to provide interworking and interconnection between carriers, this is sometimes called a clearinghouse application.

The Sonus Networks industry-leading architecture easily supports termination and interworking requirements. The Sonus IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture provides extensive signaling support for packet protocols, such as H.323, SIP, SIP-T, IP and ATM, as well as, worldwide variants of critical circuit protocols, such as SS7 and ISDN. The Sonus IMS architecture can seamlessly interwork between combinations of multiple circuit and packet protocols, while maintaining the highest level of performance, reliability and scalability.

Components of the Sonus IP-voice termination application include:

  • GSX9000™ Open Services Switch offers advanced voice transport capabilities, for scalability, performance and integrated international gateway functionality, as well as, hosting a distributed softswitch module.
  • PSX™ BGCF Routing Server the policy and database element, providing service selection and routing capabilities.
  • SGX™ SS7 Gateway is a robust SS7/C7 gateway that seamlessly interconnects with legacy SS7 networks.
  • GSX-GC Gateway Controller provides call control and signaling on the GSX9000.
  • TSX Gateway Controller is optional for third-party gateway control.
  • Sonus Insight™ Management System for comprehensive system management and billing mediation.
