PBX Access Application
To remain profitable, enterprises and carriers must leverage new technologies that reduce costs, as well as, improve voice features and services. Many enterprises with PBXs and key systems are exploring new connectivity options, often using ISDN instead of a signaling approach, such as CAS E&M. Carriers are also moving towards packet technology within their transport infrastructure. This coincidence of parallel technology shifts creates an opportunity. Carriers can offer connectivity to enterprises directly, using more cost-effective packet infrastructure instead of legacy circuit switches. This reduces costs for both the carrier and enterprise, while enabling enhanced features.

Sonus Networks industry-leading IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture allows carriers to reduce costs and enhance services. Many carriers have started their packet migration from the network core, moving outward over time to the access edge. Enterprise connectivity is often the first access application, as it involves fewer endpoints and a more structured business relationship. The Sonus IMS architecture easily supports PBX access through a variety of signaling protocols, such as North American, European and Japanese ISDN PRI and CAS. Other integrated services, such as voice Virtual Private Network (VPN) and legacy AIN services, can be enabled using the Sonus solution or Service Control Points (SCPs). The Sonus solution also supports a wide range of enhanced services, which are typically deployed in the core in order to share services cost-effectively across all users and markets.
Components of the Sonus PBX access application include:
- GSX9000™ Open Services Switch offers advanced voice transport capabilities, for scalability, performance and integrated international gateway functionality, as well as, hosting a distributed softswitch module.
- PSX™ BGCF Routing Server the policy and database element, providing service selection and routing capabilities.
- SGX™ SS7 Gateway is a robust SS7/C7 gateway that seamlessly interconnects with legacy SS7 networks.
- GSX-GC Gateway Controller provides call control and signaling on the GSX9000.
- TSX Gateway Controller is optional for third-party gateway control.
- Sonus Insight™ Management System for comprehensive system management and billing mediation.
